I've witnessed all the heartbreak, excuses and dysfunction during the Viking lore.
As of late Kevin O'Connell's 'Duck & Tuck' in my mind was one of the worst play calls in NFL history just below the Eagles fumble on the last play of the game many moons ago where Herman Edwards scooped up the ball scoring the winning TD.
Like any Viking fan I believe in my heart that I could coach the Vikings to a Super Bowl Championship. At this point, what do they have to lose?
I promise you this much: there would never be groundhog plays like the 2023 "Duck and Tuck" that couldn't gain an inch on two straight plays while using the smallest player on the team to push the pile for an inch. Meanwhile Chandler had rushed for over 120 yards in that game and he was running hot. Not to mention your best player is named "Justin Jefferson". Please don't tell me he couldn't have rushed for a flipping yard!
Apparently our HC never watched 375 pound Chicago Bear "Refrigerator Perry" carry the ball for short yardage plays & TD's with huge success.

"The Autumn wind is a Viking from the North.
Blustering in from the sea,
With a rollicking song, he sweeps along,
Swaggering boisterously.
His face is weather beaten. He wears a hooded sash, With a purple hat about his head,
And a bristling mustache and beard.
He growls as he storms the country,
A Northman big and bold.
And the trees all shake and quiver and quake,
As he robs them of their gold.
The Autumn Wind is a Viking,
Pillaging just for fun.
He'll knock you 'round and upside down,
And laugh when he's conquered and won."
Vikings 2024 Draft Picks
2024 Draft Grade: B+
2023 Draft Grade: C-
2022 Draft Grade: F-
The 2024 Draft is in the books. After the 1st round it looked like the Viking's draft was on its way to being one of the best ever until someone told GM Kwesi and his scouting department that there were still 6 more round to go.
Beyond the 1st round it turned out to be another draft day trainwreck for Kwesi. The GM apparently spent so much time preparing to draft a franchise QB that he seemed unprepared for the rest of the draft. I watched helplessly as the other 31 teams kept taking talented players off the board at positions of critical need for the Vikings.
Every year the Vikings fade late in the season because of the team's lack of depth on the roster. And every year Kwesi & O'Connell continue down the rabbit hole squandering away precious draft capital with bad trade results. The Vikings desperately needed to address the interior of the OL, DL, CB, 3rd-WR, ILB, TE, P, & K. They had plenty of picks to do just that until Kwesi basically surrendered their draft picks.
Unfortunately, they failed to get it done, again! Sure, they addressed a few needs but hardly enough. Yes, I agree, they did get hopefully their Franchise QB but beyond that their division rivals continued to get ahead of them. The Packers, Lions and Bears all scored A+ drafts by filling needs. The Las Vegas line has the Vikings at +750 to win the division. That means they are expected to come in last place.
It looks like the same old trends of not being able to stop the run on defense will continue on because the GM didn't address the DT , CB & ILB needs. On offense O'Connell's lack of preparation, erratic play-calls, game mismanagement and an unwillingness to commit to the run yielded ghostly disappearances of scoring drives for long stretches in games and now after the draft that trend will continue in the wrong direction because of their lack of investing in a C, 2-G's and a 3rd WR.
Viking fans can disagree with me all they want but you can't build your team correctly when you do trade margins that eventually tally an 11-to-4 trade in players.

Vikings Trade 1st rd. 2025 draft pick next year to 49ERS for 2024 picks 1st (31), 2nd (63rd) & 4th (124) this year.
Vikings Trade S Lewis Cine & 5th round pick in 2025 to New Orleans Saints for two 5th round draft picks this year (150) & (168).
Vikings Trade CB Andrew Booth & 5th round pick (157) to Washington Commanders to move up for 5th round pick (152) and a 7th round draft pick in 2025.
Jayden Daniels or J.J. McCarthy I hope. Casey J. Moore
Jayden Daniels would be my choice but he's unreachable for the Vikings. So, I prefer McCarthy because I think he's the most ready to play in a pro system within a year or less. He's a winner and a team player. Accurate, can avoid the rush unlike other players we have had at the position, and he plays to win. He's not going to throw a checkdown on 4th and forever.
Anyone of these 3 players in the 1st round would fill a glaring need.
This guy is a beast! The perfect fit for Flores' scheme. He makes QB's and ball carriers life a living hell. Now that's my type of player for the new Minnesota Viking Defense.
I believe this is the Swiss Army Knife Flores has been pounding the table for and the reason the Vikings are trying to keep their other 1st round pick at 23. He's the menacing playmaker that Flores really needs. I fully expect him to be a a Viking if they don't trade the pick away.
The Vikings need players who can rush the passer and actually finish the play off with a sack. That's this guy who has a relentless motor and who doesn't take plays off like others on the Viking roster.
The Vikings finally land a road grader on the OL that can actually pass block and open large holes. The Vikings finally would be getting a nasty warrior on the interior line instead of the finesse weaklings that they currently have.
If you want a tough badass gladiator who has been well coached and packs a punch this is your guy.
With the Vikings continuing to squander 2nd & 3rd round draft picks year in and year out it's tough to watch other teams get great players while we end up with clunkers and over priced cry babies that choke the salary cap unnecessarily.
It's hard to pass up on active playmakers who are tackling machines. This guy is always around the action chasing the ball down like an angry bloodhound. He would be in my must-have draft list. I certainly hope they come up to get this guy or he falls to us but on the other hand he could possibly be gobbled up as early as round 2. I am crossing my fingers he falls to the 4th round at pick 108 for the Viking's sake.
This would be a luxury pick but if you want a smooth jaguar and the best RB in the draft sometimes you've got to pony up to buy one. I hate the thought of passing on WR Malik Washington but you can't have everyone. Malik I love you, Bro! He will be long gone before the Vikings get a chance to draft him anyway.
All around productive player who opens up big holes and is an excellent pass protector. I'll admit it would be tough for me to pass on CB "DJ James" who is awesome but there are some other CB's that may pan out later that would be comparable.
The Vikings need to upgrade their interior OL especially with a rookie QB expected to get drafted. It's time for the OL to become combatant soldiers. I have grown tired of the sissy's we put on the field. 3 positions come to mind.
For me C-G Beaux Limmer was strongly considered here, so if the Vikings take him I would be very happy about it.
Jackson is my favorite player in this entire draft. He is a beast against the run & a monster who can collapse the pocket. And when this guy hits someone he comes with bad intentions. Go check his film.
I am all about the theory - 'kill the QB'! In the pros Jackson will become unblockable. He reminds me of "Akiem Hicks" formerly with the Bears/Ravens and Jackson plays just like him. All Viking fans remember what nightmares Hicks caused for the Vikings OL.
Getting this guy for Flores' defense is paramount in order to control the line of scrimmage. If the Vikings don't land this guy I am going to be really pissed. His tape is obvious even for the Viking scouts. Kwesi's drafts thus far have left much to be desired. His first draft was a colossal failure and the worst one I have ever witnessed in my 54 years of being a Viking fan. This up and coming draft will either make or break GM Kwesi and HC O'Connell.
The reason I passed earlier on T’Vondre Sweat in the earlier rounds is because he's badly out of shape and I question his motivation, especially once he gets the money.
This prospect would be an incredible #3 WR in the Viking system because he can play inside or out. He makes unbelievable catches all over the field. Deceptive speed and willing to go over the middle with sure hands. He was extremely productive in college.
Aggressive player that would immediately upgrade the Vikings secondary. He's a physical CB that puts a lick on a ball carrier and also has really good cover skills. His long arms are a weapon in coverage. Sneaky good blitzer.
This is a homerun pick at round 4.
Tough, physical bully type player who aggressively likes pancaking his opponents. This is the perfect captain along the Vikings OL.
I really like Jones because he is fluid, smooth and a very instinctive player. He's a steal type pick if he lands in Minnesota.
I wanted Tennessee CB "Kamal Hadden" on this list as well because he's a tall lanky CB that is really sticky in coverage. I think he will turn out to be a better CB in the pros than Cam Hart who is projected to go in round 4. Don't get me wrong, I like Hart as well.
I think teams are sleeping on an older college player who is an all-around player that knows how to get after the QB. He has that Chris Doleman type move around the corner that helps create strip sacks. He's another quick footed guy who goes after the QB with bad intentions. He can use speed or power to beat his opponent.
I enjoy watching physically strong and tough ILB play like wrecking balls and that's Ford in a nutshell. He has those long arms to bat balls down at the line of scrimmage and in cover. He also has the ability to come on the blitz like a raging lion and inflict rare brutality which I admire in a defensive player. I want vicious players on the Vikings defense, period!
It's hard to predict where the RB's are going to land and I think this year's class is very underrated. Miami's Trey Benson is a speed demon who brings physicality with him. USC's MarShawn Lloyd is a specially gifted runner and very productive along with a unique running style, not to mention he can fly. Jaylen Wright from Tennessee grinds out yardage at 6 yards a clip it seems like when you watch him. But more than likely they will all be gone at this point.
If Bucky Irving lasts this long it would be a miracle and dream come true for some lucky team. This guy has a gift of seeing the field ahead of time better than all of the RB's combined.
He has juice like O.J Simpson and a running style like Gale Sayers with jukes and cuts that are ridiculous. He can stop on a dime! I haven't seen that since Barry Sanders. He's explosive and hard to get on the ground. If he gets in the open field which is often, it's over! He catches the football with ease and he made Bo Nix's job a lot easier as did his great teammate WR Troy Franklin. It wouldn't surprise me if he has the best career of all the RB's in this class. He's truly special. God created this man to be a great RB.
When I was watching film on the Texas A&M games this dynamic playmaker kept showing up and making spectacular plays on the football field time after time. He might be a bit short but this guy is extremely dangerous with the football in his hands. He has really good hands, vision and explosiveness. As a punt returner he's lethal and now with the new kickoff rules this guy could be a monumental difference maker as Purdue's RB Tyrone Tracy is.
I am not going to lie, I left off probably the best player on the list who I believe could be the next Tyreek Hill but I think he will be long gone before the Vikings get their next pick after the 1st round. If they manage to finagle a 2nd or 3rd round pick I am all on the next Cheetah with WR "Malik Washington". But Ainias Smith is the next best thing. I love these 2 players a lot and would be thrilled just to get one of them.
I call this guy Big Daddy for a reason. He is a team first oriented player who in my opinion has giant upside. He will do anything the coaches ask. His height and wing span under Flores could turn this gentle giant into a bloodthirsty savage along the DL. I got my fingers crossed with the hopes of getting this player.
It's a mystery to me why draft experts don't have this guy rated higher. He should be drafted much earlier but every analyst has him going in the 7th round. Every draft simulator I have played with also has him going in the 7th but I am in the minority that saying he's much too talented of a prospect not to go earlier. But if Gabe Hall happens to land here I will be overjoyed.
I guarantee you Gabe Hall will be more productive than most of the guys listed ahead of him before his career is over.
All is another guy that people are sleeping on but for all the wrong reasons. Many have downgraded him because of injuries but this guy can do all that's required and much more.
He's a skilled route runner and reliable pass catcher. If asked to block he will, but his forte is catching the football. If he slips to the 6th or 7th round to me this is a no-brainer pick knowing that Hockenson won't be ready for the first month of the season or possibly longer.
Honestly, I think this player could step in on day one and produce at TE. I am sure the Nay Sayers will call me crazy but Erick All has all the tools needed to prove them wrong.
I would not be surprised at all if one of the hardest hitters in college football makes his way onto the Vikings either as a late round draft choice or an UDFA much like Pace did last year.
He plays with emotion and passion which I really respect. Tatum is usually all over the place and he always makes his presence felt. Some of his hits are incredibly violent. Maybe he is the type of player that could set a tempo for a defense that needs an identity to live up to the hype of chaos that they hope to bring onto the field against their opponents instead of being a doormat like they were late last season.
As honorable mentions OL-Nathan Thomas from Louisiana & DL-Tyler Davis from Clemson.
Capable slot CB with upside potential, good cover skills and speed. Some might question his tackling and size. He has the ability to make a team.
Playmaking S who's always around the ball and a sure tackler that's also a punishing hitter. He goes undrafted because of size but has the ability to overcome it.
Exciting smaller RB who has good speed and playmaking ability. Can catch the ball with ease. Has KR skills that could be lethal. He will make a team because of special teams ability. Size and fumbling issues may have cost him to get drafted. He can play the game!
Nasty player at 322 lbs with solid frame. Very coachable with tools to work with. Didn't test well at the combine. Tape says he can play football and that's all I care about.
